The costs of document discovery are expected to rise by almost $3 billion by 2007, according to a recent article in The National Law Journal.  

Revolution isn't the most usual word to use in conjunction with law, but for Thomas Jefferson School of Law it is integral to the school's vision and history.  

"It takes a while for the quality of the school to be reflected in its reputation," said University of San Diego School of Law Dean Kevin Cole. And he believes that reputation is on the up.  

California Western School of Law's motto is straightforward: "What law school ought to be". But the mission it sets itself -- in the dean's words -- of educating "lawyers who will contribute to improving the lives of their clients and the quality of justice in our society" is not.  

San Diego lawyers have discovered that devoting time to helping others less fortunate adds a rewarding dimension to their careers -- a fact never more evident than this week.

Three students from the University of San Diego School of Law recently successfully represented individuals fleeing persecution from their homelands, seeking asylum in the United States.  

Mediation is often the last opportunity for parties to resolve their differences and avoid a lengthy and expensive battle in court or arbitration. It is the last opportunity to exercise control over the outcome by working with a mediator towards a mutually acceptable agreement. Lawyers can be of tremendous benefit in helping their clients exercise control over the outcome and in resolving the conflict amicably.
