I've been trying out the Clear card from startup Verified Identity Pass Inc. It's a card that you present at airports to allow quick passage through airport security. It costs $128 per year and works at airports that accept Clear. That includes all of those in the San Francisco Bay area plus 17 others. San Diego is not yet included, but Clear will be at the Delta gates soon. Other cities include Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Denver and New York City.

In all the negative news about residential real estate, one report with a glimmer of hope has gone pretty much ignored. Default Research says that notice of default and notice of trustee sales declined in Southern California by approximately 8 percent compared to the previous month. "The housing market indicators show a declining inventory of homes for sale, but the median home values also continue to decline," said Serdar Bankaci, founder of the preforeclosure real estate data company. The biggest problems in the region continue to be Los Angeles and Riverside counties.

T. Boone Pickens is an 80-year-old billionaire oil geologist who made his money from petroleum, selling high and smart thinking. According to his newly circulated TV ads, Pickens wants 20 percent of U.S. power produced via wind. His perspective derives from national pride, concern for the economy and an understanding of mathematical trends. It is not rooted in the environmental movement, but it corresponds in many regards with the same call to action made by enlightened environmentalists concerned, inter alia, with climate change. This difference has important consequences and ramifications.

The laid back lifestyle at San Diego's summer playground at Mission Bay and nearby beaches is in full swing. The Fourth of July survived under the no drinking ban, reported crime is down and the parking lots are jammed. So what else is new?

Despite its commendable purpose, public accessibility law has been abused by certain individuals, organizations and plaintiffs' attorneys for the purpose of monetary gain. In California alone, a mere handful of individuals have filed over 400 lawsuits each within a three-year period. While states such as California, Florida and Hawaii have seen a significant share of these types of lawsuits, accessibility lawsuits are by no means limited to these states or geographic areas.

Frustrated by the influx of undisciplined workers, more and more managers these days are abdicating their responsibility for addressing poor performance and correcting inappropriate behaviors. Opting instead to report either them to the HR department or simply ignore them in the mistaken belief, they'll get the message and leave.

The U.S. Army's Soldier's Creed, adopted in 2003, include these words, "I will never leave a fallen comrade." All branches of the military have lived, and sometimes died, by what these words mean even before formally adopted.

We are at a crossroads, and depending on your perspective, it could either look like we are on the precipice of a new era or that we have gone over the cliff. The incredible run of all aspects of real estate sure felt good while it lasted.

Many lawyers pick juries the same way case after case. They use seating charts and little yellow Post-it notes, and as the potential jurors go down the list of routine questions and provide information, they furiously cram as much handwriting as they can fit on the note in order to remember what they said.
